My drive (a 60G upgrade in a Powerbook) also reports that DMA is not
supported, but DMA works like a charm. In honesty, hdparm says that
my drive is sending an incomplete ID response and that the information
may be incorrect.
On my wife's iMac DMA is also reported as not supported and also works
in reality. The incomplete ID response warning is not present.
My G5 SATA does not want to present itself, but two out of three ain't
that bad. The conclusion appears to be that the lack of DMA reported
by the drive should not be taken seriously.
