Interesting. I would be interested, too. However keep in mind that the PE2900/2950 is PCIe 1.0 while DELL PERC 7th gen are PCIe 2.0 accd. to http://www.dell.com/learn/us/en/19/campaigns/dell-raid-controllers Now I was able to frankenstein a LSI 9211-4i into a PE2900 and re-use a SFF cable from a decommissioned PE840 (yuk!). To utilize all 6 drive slots you probably need a 9211-8i. The 9211-4i is $89 at SCSI4me ( http://www.scsi4me.com/lsi-logic-sas-9211-4i-low-profile-four-port-6gb-s-sata-and-sas-pcie-hba-with-integrated-raid.html ). It's not a production server, so I can't tell how it goes under load or in the long run. I just needed to update SAS drive firmware for non-DELL drives and the Seagate firmwre updater needed the drives in JBOD/Pass-through mode which is something the DELL PERC do not offer. >From that experience all I can tell is that you need to make sure you got the correct cable, the right connector shape (90º or straight), and the right cable length. Not sure what the PERC H700 uses. The 6/i uses SFF-8087 as well.
