ACPI is not as mature as APM and requires more manual tuning. Read up on
event handling and try swsusp -- beta 19-16 is included with MDK 9.1's
latest update kernel (-25mdk). For the desktop battery monitor, I assume
you're in KDE? Look for kacpi, or try gkrellm with gkacpi.
