A console is not exclusive with a gui in Linux. Ctrl-ALT-Backspace kills off the Xserver (and anything running under it). Ctrl-Alt-f1 thru F9 of f10 bring up seperate consoles, with the Xserver running on Ctrl-alt-f7. If its hung, you can usually just do ctrl-alt-f3 (or something), and find out why... -- John Andersen - NORCOM http://www.norcomsoftware.com/
