[tlinux-users:07764] more on compiling kernel for Toshiba Linux

Hi

Well, I'm now thoroughly confused. I followed the directions at
http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/release-notes/fc5/#id3126937 on compiling
a kernel and things just don't seem to work the way they say - starting
with

yumdownloader --source kernel

which comes back with "No Match for argument kernel"

So I manually retrieved the kernel (for me that's
kernel-2.6.16-1.2080_FC5.src.rpm and install it. The doc seems to imply
that you should be able to install a source RPM as a normal user (and
they discourage you from doing dev work as root, which seems sensible).
However, when I try to install the source RPM as a user, I get

[hartr@bree ~]$ rpm -Uvh kernel-2.6.16-1.2080_FC5.src.rpm

error: cannot write to %sourcedir /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES

So I have to install as root - which I do and I then find I can't do
the 'rpmbuild' step either except as root!

ARGHH!

Either these docs are seriously whacky or I am misreading/understanding
them!

Help, please!

Can anyone give me any pointers!
