I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure I have a Toshiba BIOS installed. I
just updated it to version 1.40 which can be found
here<http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlViewDL.jsp?soid=1401580&moid=1209142&BV_SessionID=@@@@1531373306.1150860888@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccgaddidielidecgfkceghdgngdgmn.0&ct=DL>.
I also booted into the BIOS afterward to look around for anything that said
Phoenix, and I didn't see it. I did see however a option to change the
brightness from the BIOS and it tested fine, but that would be quite a pain
to restart everytime I want to change the brightness. I do have the acpi
packages installed. Using the acpitool -l x command to change the
brightness, I get the error that changing LCD brightness is supported only
on Thinkpad and Toshiba, which makes me think even more that Toshiba acpi
isn't enabled in my kernel. Not sure what you were saying about Dapper
being hard to install though. I've only used Linux once before installing
this and I got it running right away and Adept makes software installation
easy, though I think I have the whole compiling thing down now :)
