Also are you using ubuntu 6.06?
And you will need to turn ACPI off, that guy on the first link goes in
detail of how to do that, its on S359, but it should be close enough to what
you have, so i'd give those directions a try.

And you could always install a real Linux distro and go with Gentoo;
configure the box yourself completely, fun fun fun if you are a geek....
