Hi, this is just a long shot, but it shouldn't cost you anything to try
it out.

Try OpenSuse linux, it has the best Xorg setup out there.

I have a (lowly A135-S2246).  Most distributions( like my preferred
Slackware) would only setup 1024x768.

But the the latest 10.3 Alpha version of OpenSuse had the latest
glibc( 2.5) and xorg ( 7.2).  It would setup my lcd to 1200x800.

SuSE has been a big contributor to Xorg, and has always had
the best detection and xorg.conf setup. 

Of course, if it works for you, you will need xorg-7.2 and the latest
glibc. The xorg.conf won't work on older X servers.

Luckily for me, the latest Slackware-current had these, so I could
transfer the OpenSuse xorg.conf over to my Slackware-current installation.
