Yes, I believe this should work well. But in case it starts to be problematic for you I would like to recommend you to stop and reflect over the situation for a moment.

I mean, is it really really necessary to have extra redundancy in each machine when the system in whole is redundant on a machine level?

You could just put each of the load balancers in different switches and split up your resource machines between them to.

Some people would like to argue: the more configuration, the more sources of failure...

Keep it simple ;)

 

I am certainly not trying to talk you out of using NIC bonding, this is just a general tip to keep in mind and my 1 cent thought...

I gotta say that we use 3 LB using UM, and all off them use Bonding driver, but in our configuracion they all use the bonding mode=active-backup,  we haven't tried with other modes of bonding, but so far the activebackup works flawlessly... and you don't need anything special on the switches.

 

We use bonding to have a switch/NIC fault tolerant solution.

Yes, it works great with bonding.

 

I remember there used to be a problem with arptables having a direct reference to eth0 but I think that has been fixed, if not simply change it in the batch file.
