-------- Forwarded Message -------- From: Miroslav Suchy <[email protected]> To: [email protected], [email protected] Subject: spring vs. spring - conflict in names Date: Wed, 14 Dec 2011 15:39:19 +0100 Ralph and Gilboa, you both are maintainers (at least last persons in changelog) of spring package. While Ralph's spring is java framework living at jpackage.org, Gilboa's spring is RTS game living in Fedora. We (Spacewalk project [1]) used spring (java framework) for ages. And we did not notice that two packages of the two names exist, because that java framework had higher version-release. But recently spring (game) got bumped up version and we find that our management server got new game! But unfortunately the server stopped working. We fixed it for time being by putting few conflicts in spec files. But I do not think it is sustainable solution in long term. Therefore I kindly ask you, whether some of you - or both of you - are willing to change the name of your package. For example to spring-game (or spring-rts) and spring-java (or spring-framework). I know that both of you use that name for ages (both nearly the same time) and since you are both from different projects, no one and no policy can force you to the rename. But if you are willing to do that, you will make life of few people easier. Kind Regards Miroslav Suchy [1] http://spacewalk.redhat.com/
