MCP is on-board sound ( ALC888bcodec) - Extensive Googling carried out and not 
found anyone who has a solution.
Soundblaster 5.1vx - PCI card by Creative Labs. Again extensive Googling and 
found that this card will work intermittently but - strangely only after 
booting to windows and then doing a restart to Linux. With this card from a 
cold boot the card just screeches, it appears (from Googling) that windows 
sets the card (in some way that I have not found an explanation for) and 
allows it to work intermittently i.e screech-sound-screech etc. but it will 
not survive a cold boot

Yes - to no avail

Pulseaudio disabled as Logitech USB headset with only work with Skype with it 
disabled (must have this at the moment as I need to speak to wife who is 
overseas)
