Maybe so.  But it is the only one that shows up in the repository.  Also, according to the Skype website, it is the 'latest and greatest'.

Thanks for that, but unfortunately it did not appear to change anything.  Still no signal from the mike when I make a test call.  (That was 2.1.0.81 Beta, for 2010, 32 bit).

Yes.  I can record sound from the mike with Audacity. Also when I run pavucontrol, I can see that the system finds the webcam and that there is sound coming from the mike.

I assume it must be. It is enabled in the mcc, and other applications work fine.  Is there a specific test I can do?
