Shot in the dark:  If XFdrake does not download all needed rpm
packages for any reason, this behavior can happen.

Load Mandriva Linux Control Center, Software Management,
Install & Remove Software,  make sure you have All  All set to
the left of the Find window, find radeon or (for the proprietary
driver) fglrx.  Look through the possibilities and see if you are
missing anything that looks like it might be needed.

You can install the stuff for both radeon and fglrx and then
use XFdrake to set up your configuration.
