It is caused by the init routines being not quite right. It is harmless 
however, but it is simple to fix. A while ago I posted patches to fix up the 
st40 pci stuff, did you have a look at them? If you follow the order of 
initialising the registers in those patches I think you will get rid of this 
behaviour. If I remember correctly you have to reset the state in the INT and 
AINT registers after the init sequence to clear the state out.
