Hi All

I am new to Linux and thought I would start with something easy, I bought Linux for Dummies with the Red Hat Disca.

I have just installed redhat 7 on a Compaq Presario 2110, it has 2GB disk and 32MB RAM. I installed from a floppy boot disc and a CD. The insatllation completes OK but when I boot up I the system I get:

Call Trac : bad EIP Value
Code : <1> Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 0000b23b

- it then continues to:

Call trace : Bad EIP Value
Code : 0f b6 0c.................... and so on for a couple of lines

- and then hangs

I removed the windows system that was on the PC previously, so this is a linux only installation.

I have tried selecting the hardware from the list and letting linux probe for the hardware, I have loaded hte whole package and only KDE & Gnome interfaces, but all to no avail.

Am I flogging a dead horse here? Should I get a copy of RHL from somewhere else?

Any advice here would be greatly appreciated!

TIA

Hywel Nicholas
