Anyone else, *do not neglect this step*.  You'll wind up killing
processes and rebuilding the rpm db if you do. :)

> rpm -Uvh rpm*0.70*.i386.rpm popt*0.70.i386.rpm --oldpackage

But this does indeed appear to work.
