Thanks for your "shots in the dark".

1 - It's an Ultra 10 -  I don't know why I wrote 8...

2 - when I click "browse" in eprints web gui, it takes something like 5
seconds to react, while in other online installations of eprints, things
seem much faster, despite of loaded databases, network delays,etc; slow
serving therefore ; don't know about trashing, as the box is not near by.

3 - top shows that httpd takes around 40% of the cpu  during a fraction of
the delay in answering to the request.  But its far from taking 100% of it
during the 5 seconds, which seems to suggest something waiting for
something... and that's why I mentioned DNS lookup...

4 - I haven't tried hdparm -tT, but I did sometime ago tested it with
tiobench and bonnie, and it looked normal. I will give it a try later.

5 - swap: no, I didn't. With 64MB of ram only, I undertand that swap may
be a real issue, but even then, I routinely use php/apache and eprints
perl scripts seem to take "forever" - even when running commandline
scripts. (which tells me that apache/mod_perl is not an issue by itself)


I read that mysql with pthreads is not that good. Does this make any sense?
Could this be just because eprints, due to its use of XML and perl, is
simply very slow ?
