Thanks for the suggestion; I hadn't thought of that.

However, with rc.ntpd not executable booting (from the SDD, not the
installation USB stick) it still hangs at the same place. Which makes no
sense to me.

Soon I'll just reinstall from the USB boot stick and re-do everything.
There's no idication of why as progress notices display on the screen.
