Have you tried the latest alice-release 0.9.5-11 from fabians site ??

the version shipped with SLES 7 has never been tested though with alice and I 
added the full support later. So give the latest version a try and check if 
that error still exists.

There has also been a problem with yast and Compaq machines (might also occur 
on other systems) where a update of yast was needed.
