Most probably you did not install aboot (the boot loader) onto the 
hard drive. On SRM booted systems the boot loader has to be on the 
very beginning of the disk, this means, that (depending on the size 
of the disk) at least the first cylinder has to be left 
unpartinioned. If you configured the first partition of your disk 
to start at the first cylinder, start all over and re-install, this 
gives you the least trouble.
After finishing the setup you should re-install the boot loader as 
described in the Reference Manual of the officially released 
versions of SuSE Linux/AXP (I remember to have been written a SDB 
article in my old SuSE times, but this one seems to have 
vanished...). Have a look at:
