Here is my thoughts on what is happening.  When you bring up eth1 via dhcp, it
gets a DNS server assigned.  This DNS server overrides whatever DNS is already
configured for the machine.  When you take eth1 offline and the DHCP lease is
dropped, this removes the DHCP assigned DNS and allows the normal DNS to take
over.  If you can configure your DHCP client not to pull DNS entries, it should
fix the problem.
