Definitely! This is a good part of the Linux community's strength. I think what some people were talking about, though, was trying to find help that doesn't insult or talk down to them. I do think that LUGs are probably a better answer to this than online (at the very least, people have a tendency I've noticed to be ruder online than they are in person).
