Hmmm, I have had this kind of trouble with "grub" and "initrd"- switching
to "lilo" as a bootloader resolved that here.

Should work. I currently have 4 systems with 1GB RAM running here ( 3 SMP
systems which only work correctly since WOLK 4.10-pre7) and one UP system
with 2 GB RAM currently running WOLK 4.9. The distribution used here is
currently SuSE 8.2 professional.

Did you test your memory with "memcheck" ?
