asdf.texinfo

I find that makeinfo version 4.9 is unable to successfully format
asdf.texinfo.  Are others able to successfully format it?

I get errors on line 230, where the use of @@ is unable to prevent
makeinfo from being confused about whether the line:

    :author "Joe User <joe@@example.com>"

contains a texinfo command.  After that, makeinfo goes all pear-shaped,
and starts being unable to find "Top" in references...

Removing the offending line above allows makeinfo to run to completion
successfully.

Trying to format in xemacs using texinfo-format-buffer also fails.
Perhaps xemacs is using a very old version of texinfmt.el?  version
"2.40 of 6 Dec 2002" looks suspect.  Would someone who can successfully
run asdf.texinfo through the mill please post the value of
texinfmt-version from their emacs?
