Win32 Emacs 21.2 / ILISP 5.12.0 / CormanLisp 2.01

In searching the archives it sounds like folks (myself included) are
generally having problems getting this configuration to work.  Has anyone
had success?

I get as far as:

Starting C:/PROGRA~1/CORMAN~1/CORMAN~1.0/clconsole.exe -image
C:/PROGRA~1/CORMAN~1/CORMAN~1.0/CormanLisp.img ...

And then it hangs.

I noticed that the mode line read ILISP :sync.  After reading code for a
while, I commented out the body of comint-sync, which caused the mode line
to change to ILISP :binary.  It seems to me (and I know next to nothing
about emacs) that comint-send is blocking.  Any clues?

As an aside, I tried to use the built-in inf-lisp.el module.  What I
discovered was that I'd run into this same situation, but by typing 1<ENTER>
once or twice it would *sometimes* synchronize up and appear to work from
thence onward.  Does this shed any light on the problem?
