I will try, again, to re-create, but so far has happened twice.
will try fullpath instead of ~/.coneSIMP too.. just in case.

What do you mean by "meaningfull manner"?. From the user's perspective or
from the code?
I would think from the account setup screen it would be the best place.
Many multi-mail mail programs use that approach (ie PmMail, outlook,
thundebird... although thunderbird is a bit strange in how it does it)

When using remote config this quickly becomes a problem..
Examples:
1- Setup where in one place there is a smtp server in the localhost, but
in the other place where one reads the remote config there isn't so
pointing to localhost for several mail accounts will fail from some
locations.
2- One or more domains use SPF so when sending for domain A it's ok if it
comes from my home SMTP server, but domain B has an SPF set to a specific
server or servers.
3- The domain has mail archiving, but one has to mail through particular
SMTP servers for the mail to get archived.
