Are you thinking about using some kind of common localization tools for this? Something like po- or xliff-files? In this case I would be happy to provide a pootle (http://pootle.wordforge.org) server installation (e.g. http://translate.systemausfall.org), that would allow people to translate the messages via a nice web interface. And I would also translate ezmlm-idx into German :) In case you need help to create po/xliff-files, then I would also be willing to code some scripts to generate these files, if necessary.
