FWIW if you care for some numbers: postgresql.org has 98 lists (yes,
really); there are about 1500 messages destined to lists daily, which
are turned into about 330,000 outgoing messages.  This gives a measly
average of 220 recipients per email, which doesn't give the system much
justice because our most-subscribed-to list, pgsql-announce, has about
27,000 subscribers.
