That very nearly happened here at Sussex also.   When Cyrusoft went under, there was a bit of a panic here because Mulberry was our main supported email client and hence there was a need for continuity; the bosses all seemed to think it would stop working overnight.  We were just embarking on a client-replacement exercise when the news came through that Cyrus Daboo had reacquired the rights to Mulberry and had made it open source.  At the time we were running Mulberry 3.1, but soon after we decided to upgrade to version 4.0.8 which was the last licensed version.  As it was stable, we decided to stick with it, and so it remained for the next seven years, until the need for an all-in-one email/calendaring system (we had been using MeetingMaker, which was troublesome) brought about the move to Exchange and Outlook.
