I thought this was the case, and so did the mail server guy..

RID of the delays while still keeping my huge INBOX..

These are all off in both my good and bad configs
            [ ]  quell-mailchecks-composing-except-inbox      
            [ ]  quell-mailchecks-composing-inbox             
            [ ]  check-newmail-when-quitting                  

In both bad and good configs, I have this:
mail-check-interval              = 15                                           
mail-check-interval-noncurrent   = <No Value Set: using "0">                    
maildrop-check-minimum           = <No Value Set: using "60">                   

I originally thought my mail-check-interval setting might cause this, but
again, it didn't seem to matter.

Thanks for the ideas though.  That's what's confusing me, is that
it *seems* somehow to be related to my settings, but I seem to have gotten
rid of as many settings differences as I can figure out.


Damn, I realized that I forgot to ask the main thing I *originally* meant
to ask about.

In my NEW pinerc, it has this:

# Patterns and their actions are stored here.
patterns-filters2=

# Patterns and their actions are stored here.
patterns-scores2=


Why do these setting names have '2' on them?  There are NOT versions without
the '2' on them.

Well, as I said, GNUMail (which has close to the best interface I've seen
in a GUI mail program) is really slow too..

That's part of why I started upon this "start with fresh prefs" idea -- 
to determine whether it was MY fault or my mail server's or what.

It now *seems* to be some kind of setting I'm using, which *also* may be
hardcoded into GNUMail..
