After following your advice to contact the postmaster, I found out
that that's exactly what happened!

And this was exactly what I had to do (and finally did). But life
isn't all that easy:
I couldn't follow your advice directly, because my Univ. Windows XP
is, of course, a German edition, where what you call "MY computer"
has a totally different (and unrecognizable) name in German!
(Another reason to hate MS). And, of course, only our postmaster
could tell me what the name suffix of the server is that I am using.

But cudos to PCPine: after I gave the the DNS suffix to Win XP,
PCPine picked up elegantly and flawlessly!

So thanks to both of you, Dave and Bert, for your expert help!
