is the same quibble about what DJB didn't tell you could not do. got
eggs? who cares. besides what do you know about copyright? it was
established (in the USA) to promote science and useful arts. so that we
are protected to believe it _is_ the work authored by DJB if the work is
so labeled.

Actually an old opinion from the supreme court referenced books
published by Oxford and their creditability because we recognize
Oxford. Copyright protects creditability of information because only
Oxford is allowed to say they are Oxford.

That's the intent of copyright. Down the line people exercising their
rights (maybe even Oxford) decided to license their copyright -- selling
the ownership and control of whatever media it's provided on but not
the ultimate right that comes from its creation. The interpretation and
enforcement of that transaction is a repeating pattern three or more
generations old now. A critical mass establishes precedent, judicially,
allowing them to sell their intellectual property while retaining its
ownership.

My opinion is the model of IP commercial licensing is short lived --
but that's another topic and not related to qmail distribution. So
Charlie, what respect do you give the ecology when your motivation
revolves around your own liability, or that of third parties? Sounds
more like disrespect and interference of open IP disguised as policing
the technology you are unable to accept and own.
