I assume you use Zoe as a POP server and set Eudora up to collect mail
from Zoe, right?

AFAIK, POP3 protocol doesn't provide a means for the server to tell a
client what messages are new. Zoe can't provide server-side management
beyond what POP3 does. It's therefore the job of the client to remember
what has been downloaded, regardless of what POP3 server you use. IOW,
it's the same as if you set Eudora up to download from your ISP's mail
server via the POP3 protocol.

IMAP4, OTOH, does provide better server-side management, including
server-side folders and message read status. Zoe isn't an IMAP server,
however. By forgoing the sorting-to-folders approach (as IMAP implies)
in favor of the indexed search approach, I'm afraid Zoe isn't likely to
play the role of IMAP server anytime soon. Obviously I can't speak for
the author, however, and I don't know if he ever spoke on the subject
before. I'm relatively new here. :-)

That said, it's indeed strange if Eudora starts to download everything
each time, assuming you didn't make any change to the whole setup.
Typical changes that might trigger this include setting up new accounts
or personas in Eudora, or changing account/persona names or connection
setup (e.g., changing the server name from localhost to 127.0.0.1,
though both are practically identical). You'll have to be more specific
for us to be of any help.
