To be clear, you were answered with a much longer answer, that was punctuated with the genocide question. You said: "So why is it bad? I hear a lot of screaming...and frankly not a single good reason as to why" He responded: "http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/middle_east/jan-june02/bush_speech_6-24.html "This means that the Israeli occupation that began in 1967 will be ended through a settlement negotiated between the parties, based on U.N. Resolutions 242 and 338, with Israeli withdrawal to secure and recognized borders." This is the closest that anyone can say that Bush came to endorsing pre-67 borders, However, the emphasis was on *secure* borders and the pre-67 borders were not secure. The problem is that Israel has always been willing to trade land for peace - witness the giveback of the Sinai - but a precondition has been recognition of Israel's right to exist and everyone, but the Egyptians, to a limited extent, has denied that. Israel has always been willing to exchange land for peace. The others have never been willing to exchange peace for anything but the annihilation of the Jewish people. Personally, I'm of the opinion that if you attack your neighbor and then lose your land in the attack, it should stay lost - that's the penalty you pay for breaching the peace. The burden should be on those who want to destroy Israel to explain why the Jews shouldn't be able to return to their homeland. I would like to know why you favor the genocide of the Jews?" So the question had some grounding and was what he considered to be the logical consequence of the situation. BTW, I have had the same thing done to me by people here, take something I said and run down the line to what they consider a logical conclusion. I agree it sucks, but we have all done it, and your acting the martyr here is ironic. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Friday, May 20, 2011 8:13 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [DADL-OT] Fwd: Re: Fwd: Wow... My first time defending someone... >Seriously, Thom I can understand why someone else, (don't know who and >don't really care), figured it was pointless arguing with you about >this. You are denying historical, political, diplomatic, and practical reality. That would imply there was an argument. Again, because you and Karl seemed to have missed this, the accusation wasn't made based on my comment of the Bush and Obama approach being essentially the same. I asked for clarification of what was so terrible in the speech. I got no answer the first time. I asked a second time. I was answered with "Why do you support the genocide of the Jews?" And when I bowed out based on cheap shots and insults? The answer was not an explanation or clarification or an attempt at peace it is "good, you are stupid." And later calling me an idiot. Hey, unlike Israel or Palestinian die-hards, I am trying to take the information in and understand he whole picture...not just one side of it.
