Re: Marine killed in his own home

According to John Lott, gun researcher extraordinaire, the one statistic that
isn't kept is how many times the mere brandishing of a weapon prevents further
crime. And it has long been said that the most frightening sound to hear in the
dark, especially for a home invader, is the racking of a pump action shotgun.

Its not violence, necessarily, but rather the threat of violence that deters a
home invader. Depending on the home invader of course, the threat of violence
may be enough to scare them off. If it isn't, at least you have a fighting
chance to defend yourself, because one that isn't deterred by the threat of
violence is very unlikely to be swayed by a plea for mercy.

But this continues to evade the bottom line, which is *why* he even had a
sword... er, gun. *Why* did he grab it when he thought his house was being
invaded? What did he intend to do with it? And let's not employ vague,
non-useful terms like "defend his property," let's use specific descriptions.
