Not one of those cops will lose their jobs. There may be a civil suit and the county may have to pony up some bucks but that isn't much of a disincentive for this type of thing since it is the taxpayor footing the bill, not the ones responsible for the death. What we're saying here is that he still died by the sword, even though he wasn't attacking with it. Simply owning a sword shouldn't mean you should die by one.
