>Medicaid is another example for this. When you aren't paying for your health care you'll take your kid, or yourself, to the emergency room for a head cold. >If you are paying your own heath care, and don't have insurance, you'll suffer excruciating pain, risk serious internal infections and contemplate wishing for death from a gall bladder attack, so as not to incur a medical bill you have no >idea how you will pay. (like I said - anecdotal). Anectdotally speaking, I have never met the person who goes to the emergency room for a headcold. Every person I know won't go in to see a doctor until the last absolute second-or die...whether it's government or themselves paying for it makes no difference in anyone I know in real life. I heck, I didn't go to see a doctor for over a month after having 300 lbs land on my foot and could barely walk-and it would have been a toally free checkup... so, free of charge and not on my healthplan? Did not change my willingness to go see a doctor...and that has been the example I have seen from friends and family-including those getting free government medical coverage.
