well, that was really weird listening to a christmas cd in march.B i too
pulled this out after listening to it maybe once a LONG time ago. i really
enjoyed the whole cd. "are you burning little candle" is clearly the best of
all on the cd. i will now place it with my christmas cd's instead of being in
my specialB jane collection box.B i loved mary margaret o'hara too and her
freakishly quick vibrato.B B similar toB my snow white voice huh ben?

as winter becomes spring in the Northern Hemisphere, we hit a three-week
transitional phase in the SoJ/I project. no new jane albums until Week Ten,
which will correspond to her major label swan song...but i jump ahead. (or
muse
aloud.)
This week - "Count Your Blessings", a 14 track recording of a live
performance by jane, holly cole, rebecca jenkins, mary margaret o'hara and
victoria williams in Toronto on December 2, 1993. obviously, this is not
strictly a "jane" album, and i originally gave it a SoJ/I week only
because it was in the list of issa songs on wikipedia.
but after listening to the CD Friday i am happy that "Count Your
Blessings" got a week, for two reasons. first, there are seeds of
jane's future direction - tim ray's participation on piano reminds one
of "Maria" to come, and the holiday music in general reminds one of
"Child" coming down the pike. (indeed, at least four songs overlap
between "Count Your Blessings" and "Child".)
the second reason isn't about jane, but about mary margaret o'hara -
after listening to "Count Your Blessings", i need to dig up "Miss
America" and listen to it - MMO'H has a wondrous voice....
oh, yeah, about _this_ album. some nice songs, though listening them all in
the
row became a bit boring. "Are You Burning Little Candle" is a stand
out, and "Please Come Home for Christmas" as well. i found that i like
victoria williams' voice less every time i listen to these songs (do her
studio recordings sound better?). jane's voice isn't in high profile on
most of this album, but certainly her sentiments and love of traditional
holiday
songs are here. not a must buy, even for holiday music fans (i would buy
"Child" before this album), but i'm happy to own it.
