I've never seen the temp file problem you describe though and > I've used BNR2 for years now. Words outa my mouth, I have used BNRx and helped in the old forums and this list for many years (got 3+ years worth of posts archived in this newsreader), but never heard or seen such a thing, IMO something else got in the way like zonealarm and its yEnc blocking problems. If you try to start BNR3 while its already running you will get the "unable to open database" thing just as you say. BNR3 does not need anymore work IMO its as good as perfect, I have it running for ages without problem (last time it was left for a very long run it did 28 days 13 hours while I was away and just short of a TB) I vac and frag (via a bat file) the msglst's (sqLite DB's) around once a month (cant remember last time I had to setup a new sqLite DB gotta be more than 18~20 months) and use contig to defrag the msglst as part of its start up so its always as fast as a new DB even if its >800 MB. There is no other newsreader/downloader that can come close to the power or automation, but it does need to be setup to the computer its being used on, all of which has been posted about many times search the list for .bat files, page files, BNR setup, database or just read TF list ...via Gmane is best IMO but YMMV.
