I have a project like that on my todo list. Although other readers argued that Cacti or Zenoss do that well. I have no experience with Zenoss but Cacti didn't make things easier than Cricket at all for me. I claim that there is so much useless software that claims to be a "unified monitoring software" (don't make me start about commercial systems that are just plain crap) that I'd rather invest time into my own software instead of trying everything else.
