Daniel,

Fire is not based upon GAIM (although the two do share some information 
from the AIM libraries.)

Fire has it's own mechanism for secure communication, based on GPG, 
which is not directly compatible with the gaim-e or game-encrypt 
plugins.

It is on my todo list to work with them to create a common/compatible 
system for encryption that all of the third party IM tools can use.  
However, such work has not yet commenced in earnest.
