Fire 1.5.1 not scrolling chats in Tiger

An odd interaction with Fire 1.5.1 (Jan 22 2005) in Tiger (8A425)... 
when one of my chat windows (or in this case, a tab in my tabbed 
window, using the Sidebar setting) fills up, and the person I'm 
chatting with says something, the window doesn't scroll to show the 
new text. If I type something, it does add it to the window and 
scroll.

Also, the prefs window is displaying oddly, with all of the icons but 
only a handful of the text labels for them, the text landing between 
and below two icons.

Everything else seems to be pretty much functioning as usual; still 
only rare success with file transfers.
