Thanks, Graham! That may well have been it; the owner was "system" 
instead of me. I've changed it. Meantime, I had trashed fire.plist 
and launched with no crash, so either that fixed it, or it was 
coincidence. (I had gotten it to stay running a couple of times.)

I'll report back if the problem recurs.
