Large SMP machines and/or machines with more than one PCI bus can definitely benefit from multiple NICs. However, multiple NICs on the same PCI bus can cause PCI bus contention. Current software does not allow you to aggregate bandwidth between the 2 or more NICs. However, you can load balance MPI processes across several NICs in your hosts. Refer to the README-mpich-gm in the MPICH-GM distribution for details. If you go to the new searchable Myrinet FAQ http://www.myri.com/scs/FAQ/ and click on "Search" in the upper lefthand corner, you can search for the keywords "multiple" and "channel bonding".
