v1 trap + agent address

While generating V1 traps. If Agent runs on a box which has multiple interfaces (ie. IP addresses). How to select active interface IP address value in Trap (Agent Address) ?
I considered socket API like gethostname(), hostent structure pointer h_addr_list[index]. But how do we decide upon index value. I would really appreciate for reply if you have had this check in your agent.
