UPDATE: Nrpe: "Are we allowed to connect to the host?"

While looking at this error in more detail on the
remote host itself, I added debug to nrpe.cfg and saw
this:
<snip>
Jun 27 10:23:19 mail nrpe[1850]: [ID 421412
daemon.error] Could not read request from client,
bailing out...
</snip>

While I now understand why I get a "are we allowed to
connect to this host - received 0 bytes" error on the
server, why would the remote host [running this
command: /usr/local/nagios/bin/nrpe -d
/usr/local/nagios/etc/nrpe.cfg
] bail out ??

Note: I tried to add the "command timeout" in
nrpe.cfg, but the daemon dies with an error - was
thinking maybe this would help the situation. (so need
to leave it hashed out, else nrpe wont start)

# COMMAND TIMEOUT
# This specifies the maximum number of seconds that
the NRPE daemon will
# allow plugins to finish executing before killing
them off.

#command_timeout=60

BUT nrpe daemon dies with an error.

Thanks again for any thoughts on this new info!!
Glen.
