It's time for This Week in OpenNMS <http://www.opennms.org/>. This last
week we worked on IPv6, getting debug info from the web UI, and reporting.
Project Updates
* 1.8: Current Release is 1.8.5 (Plover)
1.8.5
<http://www.opennms.org/documentation/ReleaseNotesStable.html#opennms-1.8.5> is
the current stable release, tagged 13 October 2010. For a complete
list of changes and updates, see the "New and Noteworthy" page on
the OpenNMS wiki
<http://www.opennms.org/wiki/New_and_Noteworthy#New_in_OpenNMS_1.8.5>.
As always, it is recommended that you back up your database before
upgrading.
* Seth continued working on his bughunt as well as doing more
prepwork for IPv6 support.
* Ben did a number of build-tree fixes for building using Maven 3.0.
* Matt looked at Provisiond issues.
* Donald wrapped up his work on integrating support for JRobin data
into Jasper Reports
<http://www.opennms.org/wiki/Jasper_Report_RRD_Datasource_Specification>.
* Jonathan worked on being able to use parameters in the JRobin
Jasper Reports integration.
* Ben worked on being able to generate system reports for debugging
from the web UI.
Bug Hunt? Nope. Bugzilla Hunt.
Bugzilla has served us well for a long time, and it's still one of the
most streamlined tools for dealing with bugs from a developer point of
view, but it has not served us very well for keeping track of projects.
At The OpenNMS Group, we've been using JIRA
<http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/> internally for a long time,
and it's time to finally get everything together in one place --- bugs,
projects, and issues.
Today I'll be working on replacing our Bugzilla instance with JIRA. I'll
do my best to make old links forward to the right places, but if
something's not going where you expect, let me know
<mailto:[email protected]>.
If you have an existing Bugzilla account, you should be able to log in
with your email address as the username just as you did with Bugzilla,
and all of your bugs will still be associated with you. If you run into
any issues once the switch is made, or if you'd like me to change your
username to something other than an email address, please don't hesitate
to send me an email <mailto:[email protected]> and I'll get you the hookup.
Upcoming Events
* We're going to be scheduling at least one training week in the US
(likely in the Midwest) and one in Europe before the end of 2010.
If you'd be interested in attending a training course, drop us a
line <mailto:[email protected]> and let us know.
* November 11, 2010: OGP members Ronny Trommer and Alexander Finger
will be giving a brief introduction to Network Management with
OpenNMS at the 20th Swiss Network Operators Group Meeting in Bern.
For more details, see www.swinog.ch <http://www.swinog.ch/>.
* If you have anything to add to the events list, please let me know
<mailto:[email protected]>.
Until Next Week...
As always, if there's anything you'd like me to talk about in a future
TWiO, or you just have a comment or criticism that you'd like to share,
don't hesitate to say hi <mailto:[email protected]>.
