Rather I suspect that what you encountered was a manifestation of a problem with the code that allocates the internal missing article list. I have since rewritten that portion of the code to avoid the problem. FWIW, news.motzarella.org now reports much smaller article numbers for rec.motorcycles.harley. The biggest numbers now come from the rec.politics.guns group: rec.motorcycles.harley 0000005503 0000000227 y talk.politics.guns 2121825427 0000039583 y The latest version in the repository is pre0.9.9-116. I would not attempt to read the guns group with anything less than that version.
