Boy, I'm rusty. I haven't tried to do anything with C in years, and at best the last time I touched any C code I was a rank amateur. But, after some brief hacking I've managed to tweak TIN so that it displays subject longer than screen width on the bottom two lines of the screen instead of just the bottom line. For extremely long subjects, there still might be some truncation, but it doubles the room available for displaying the subject, which helps with viewing groups were long subjects are the norm.
