You have SpamBayes confused with an Earthlink type mail blocker. There is no
"click here for me to get your email" function.

The SpamBayes project is working on developing a Bayesian anti-spam filter. 
SpamBayes must be trained by each user to identify spam and ham.
Essentially, you show SpamBayes a pile of email that you like (ham) and a
pile you don't like (spam). SpamBayes will then analyze the piles for clues
as to what makes the spam and ham different. For example; different words,
differences in the mailer headers and content style. The system then uses
these clues to examine new messages.

Wharton School of Business suggests that any communication must be replied
to in 1 days time. If you're out then you need the auto reply. It’s called
good business. If I'm trying to buy something from you and you don't reply ,
I will go somewhere else. Once again, it's a business tool that will never
go away because it is useful. So either get an algorithm spam filter or hit
the delete button. It's really not that hard. If you need help there is a
book called, "Hitting the delete button for dummies."

And if everyone on the list were running such software? I don't know about
you, but I don't want hundreds of "click here for me to get your email"
notifications because I've decided to post to a public list. 

Additionally, spamming in order to stop spam (if you're confused as to why a
C/R system is spam, keep in mind that spam isn't inherently commercial in
nature) doesn't make much sense. In fact, many people consider it quite
hypocritical. And what about all the spam you get that has an innocent
person's email address? Have you been on the receiving end of hundreds of
C/R emails because one of your domains was used to send spam out?

And please explain how an automated response makes someone feel like they
aren't being ignored. Personally, I feel like I haven't been ignored when
the person I've written to takes the time to hit reply, type at least a few
words, and hits send.
